Transgenic Green House for Contained Testing of transgenic Bt Cotton

R & D personnel regularly interact with the farming communities, prior to and after deployment of new products. Breeders, Entomologists, Pathologists, Biotechnologists and Marketing specialists visit hundreds of farmers for conducting on-farmer training courses as well as extend assistance by way of offering advice in respect of integrated pest and nutrient management practices.

Jointly with the molecular biologists and biotechnologists of our sister concern, Global Transgenes Ltd, Nath Biogenes have conducted hundreds of multi-location and large-scale trials. Conventional breeding programmes for development of new products is pursued at two of our major R & D Research farms; one at Isarwadi (about 35 KMs away from Aurangabad) and other in the Aurangabad city itself. Both have an area of 30 to 40 acres. The Isarwadi farm is specially used for testing products suitable for rain-fed agro-climatic conditions, whereas, Aurangabad Research farm is mainly used for development and testing of product development for irrigated ecosystems. Monitoring and Evaluation teams of the RCGM and GEAC (Govt. of India) visit these trials for assesment of the test hybrids and efficacy of the transgene.

Nath Biogene (I) Ltd.'s NCEH-2R (foreground) and counter-part NCEH-2R non-Bt (background) under evaluation trial at one of the worst affected (bollworm attack) locations, near Rajkot, Gujarat. Despite 5 sprays of bollworm-specific insecticides on NCEH-2R non-Bt plants (none on Bt plants), finding any bolls on non-Bt plants was rare.
